CBS honcho Les Moonves believes it’s sexism that’s sinking the good ship Couric…er, the CBS Evening News:

“I’m sort of surprised by the vitriol against her. The number of people who don’t want news from a woman was startling,” Mr Moonves said of the audience’s reaction to Ms Couric, who this month brought ratings for the CBS Evening News to a 20-year low.

I think I speak for all of us when I say that I want my news delivered to me by an older gentleman who has one of those “I’ve been dead for two whole years” faces.  I’m thinking my anchor has got to have cheeks that blow in  the breeze and eyes with bodybags drooping below.  There are of course, women who fall into this category, such as…

Helen Thomas of the Washington Press Corps.  That said, I’m thinking Leslie was going for perky, blonde, and cute when he tabbed Couric, whose journalistic focus for the better part of a decade was on celebrity interviews and holiday cooking.
