Suspects can’t sue Cops!

Don’t cross that..

“You can’t cross that… because it’s made out of plastic.”

In a story that should be filed under “duh,” the supreme court filed a ruling that said you can’t sue cops if you’re the suspect and you sustained injury. Victor Harris tried to out run the cops (in his vehicle) but the only turns he makes nowadays are with his mouth after being left a quadriplegic from an injury he sustained after police had to take him off the road by force. What you gotta say ’bout that Justice Scalia:

The car chase that [Harris] initiated in this case posed substantial and immediate risk of serious physical injury to others. [Deputy Timothy] Scott’s attempt to terminate the chase by forcing [Harris] off the road was reasonable.

The ruling came out to 8-1, with the lone dissenter being Justice John Paul Stevens, who said this:

The risk inherent in justifying unwarranted police conduct on the basis of unfounded assumptions are unacceptable, particularly when less dramatic measures … could have avoided such a tragic result.

You could look at this both ways, but in the end, this does make for a kick ass scene in “World’s Scariest Police Videos.”

Chase: this.
